Best Way to Backup/Restore Local Installation 1 Year, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi All,

I am learning TomatoCart on a local installation on WampServer. Being as i mess things up quite often while I experiment I would like to do a frequent quick and dirty copy/backup of the site including any config changes, MySql etc. Any suggestions what the best way is given that I may also want to restore the backup quite often too?

By the way I am using the term 'backup' very loosely here!

I am running ion Windows XP.

Thanks for any help.

Hi fredthefifth,

In the TomatoCart, there is a Database Backup Manage module in the admin area. It can be found in 'start menu->tools'. It's easy to use it to backup the data or restore the data.

Thank you, first backup completed!
What do i do with the folder structure and files, what is the best way to do that? Not sure why, but surely files get modified don't they? What about images etc?
Thanks again.

there are 2 ways you can do this.

1. after every success full step you can make a backup from files and database. divide your backups in dates, or step1 -payment success or something like that. So you can always get back to the latest step.

2. or you can learn the hard way. The best way to learn is from your mistakes. If you'll install it over and over again en also the successfull steps you'll get a good know how of the system.

its up to you i prefer the second one
